One of our directors grew up in California on Shasta, much like the rest of the US. Just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock, Shasta Beverages is a a soft drink manufacturer in America which sells a value-priced soft drink line with a wide variety of soda flavors, under the brand name Shasta Soda. The company name is derived from Mount Shasta (that’s why we used that photo) and an associated spring.
The company began as The Shasta Mineral Springs Company on December 6, 1889. In 1928 the name was changed to The Shasta Water Company. It produced bottled mineral water from Shasta Springs in California.
In 1931, Shasta produced its first soft drink, a ginger ale (our favorite second only to orange soda, which came later!). Shasta introduced new marketing strategies in 1950s, which became industry standards: the packaging of soft drinks in cans, the introduction of low calorie soft drinks, and the distribution of cans and bottles directly to grocers through wholesale channels.
In 1985, it was acquired by the National Beverage Corp., which also owns the similarly marketed Faygo line of sodas. And they approached us through one of our agents to produce a sizzle reel for a convention. We did so in a crunch at their request, and got it to them just before they attended. This is what we made using their materials.
